Best Nightlife -(Bars)
Akenside Trader
(Nightlife - Bars)
3-5 Akenside HillNewcastle upon Tyne UK NE1 3UF 191-230-3465
Description:
This is a newer bar and is a little more modern than some of its competitors. It offers two spacious floors, and the furnishings are a bit of a departure from traditional pubs. The crowd here is slightly older, and the bar area has plenty of room to mix and mingle. In addition, Akenside is a popular happy hour destination during the week. This is perhaps one of Newcastle's more stylish pre-club or after-dinner bars.
Blackie Boy
(Nightlife - Bars)
11 Groat MarketNewcastle upon Tyne UK NE1 1UQ 191-232-0730
Description:
Known for its "capacious" menu, Blackie Boy offers freshly cooked English and continental fare with waiter service. The bar buffet, which is open from noon-3pm on Sundays, is popular, and the bar tends to attract after-work types and young partiers. Established in 1923, Blackie Boy has all the traditional beers and serves them in an upscale atmosphere.
Bonded Warehouse
(Nightlife - Bars)
Baltic ChambersNewcastle upon Tyne UK NE1 3DQ 191-261-7388
Description:
This bar with the interesting name is popular among beer connoisseurs because of its cask-conditioned ales. The atmosphere here is very casual, sporting events are shown frequently, and there is a resident DJ on Saturdays who hosts wicked party games that last all night long. Happy hour lasts from 4pm-8pm daily, and the new menu is available from noon-3pm every day. The Bonded Warehouse is a good stop for fun or relaxation, and many people do stop in regularly.
Casa
(Nightlife - Bars)
Watergate BldgNewcastle upon Tyne UK NE1 3RG 191-222-0164
Description:
This establishment is both a well-known bar and a good restaurant, with a great location near the famous swing bridge. The window-lined room provides a fabulous view of the river for customers to enjoy while dining. The décor consists of a modern European style, with clean lines and sparse decorations. Salads, salmon puttanesca with pasta, sandwiches, and pancakes are all included on the menu. Desserts and pastries, along with an extensive list of coffees are also available.
Chambers
(Nightlife - Bars)
14 Bigg MarketNewcastle upon Tyne UK 191-232-0058
Description:
Because of its location in the middle of Bigg Market, lots of people start out here before they go dancing. During the week, they have karaoke and an ever-popular '70's night. Wednesday is probably the best weeknight here with a promo they call Midweek Madness. The music on the weekends is a little more cutting edge than at other places, and the small dance floor fills up quickly. The well-dressed crowd enjoys the reasonable beer prices and shooter specials.
